The first plate in the Fantasia Mediterranea collection draws from illustrator and Phenich co-founder Derek Fenech’s Maltese roots. Growing up in a family of fishermen, the sea and the stories that came with it were always close, quietly shaping his imagination. This whimsical illustration is a nod to that world, where a flying Maltese luzzu wanders through gentle cloud paths and a mermaid pauses on a rock below, watching their passage. The scene carries the feel of 18th-century engravings and Toile patterns with touches of folklore and the mythology.
Edition of 500. Individually numbered.
Screen printed on English fine bone china, known for its clarity, finesse and strength. Each Phenich plate is handcrafted in Stoke-on-Trent using techniques that have remained unchanged for over 135 years.

The Fantasia Mediterranea plate is illustrated by Derek Fenech at Phenich, and each one is crafted by one of England’s oldest fine bone china makers, established in 1888 and known for producing pieces for the Royal Collection Trust, Kensington Palace, Burberry and Fortnum & Mason.
